About Judo NB

Judo NB is the provincial governing body for judo in New Brunswick. We support the clubs where people train, certify the coaches and officials who run the sport, organize tournaments, clinics and gradings, and develop the athletes who represent the province.

Our mission

Judo New Brunswick provides pathways for excellence and a safe, quality experience for all members through the promotion of judo as an Olympic Sport, means of physical fitness, and method for self improvement.

What we're working toward

  1. New Brunswick athletes representing Canada on the international stage.
  2. Tournaments run to a professional standard for every competitor who enters one.
  3. National recognition for programs that reach people judo has historically left out.
  4. Promote judo across the province.

What we stand for

Judo is a sport, an art, a discipline, a pastime, a fitness program, a means of self-defence — and a way of life. What is learned on the mat carries over at home, at school, at work and at play. These are the principles we hold our clubs, coaches and events to.

  • Sportsmanship

Play by the rules, bow to your opponent, and shake hands whichever way the match goes.

  • Fair play

Every judoka gets the same rules, the same officiating and the same shot at the podium.

  • A safe place to train

Screened coaches, clear conduct rules, and a dojo where nobody has to put up with harm.

  • Program excellence

Certified coaching, real progression, and gradings that mean the same thing in every club.

  • Integrity

Decisions made openly, and governance documents anyone can read for themselves.

  • Leadership and respect

Volunteers who lead by example, and respect that runs both ways between mat and coach.

Board of directors

Judo NB is run by a volunteer board — an executive, a director for each zone in the province, and the committees that handle grading, refereeing, kata, athlete development and communications.

18 volunteers currently serve.
