Rear breakfall
Round the back, tuck the chin to the chest and slap the mat with both arms. The very first safety skill.
Kodomo-no-Kata
Level 5 brings the judoka to their feet. They learn to grip and move, to break balance in eight directions (Happo-no-kuzushi), and perform three throws from standing: the front foot sweep, the floating drop and the floating hip.
Rear breakfall
Round the back, tuck the chin to the chest and slap the mat with both arms. The very first safety skill.
Side breakfall
Fall to one side and slap with the matching arm, protecting the head and elbow.
Forward rolling breakfall
Roll diagonally across the back and come up to your feet — a smooth roll, never a flop.
Front foot sweep
Sweep Uke's advancing foot the instant weight settles onto it. The classic lesson in timing.
Floating drop
A pure hand throw: break Uke's balance forward and float them to the mat with no leg or hip contact.
Floating hip throw
Turn in and lift Uke onto the hip, floating them around and down — the first hip throw young judoka meet. (The PDF labels this 'Uki-otoshi'; the standard name for the floating hip is Uki-goshi.)
